PhiloWilke was proud to participate in the IIDA Texas Oklahoma Chapter 2024 Furniture Flip, a charity event that provides mattresses for children in need through the Houston Furniture Bank’s ‘No Kids on the Floor’ program. Our team’s participation helped raise funds to ensure children in the Greater Houston area have a comfortable place to sleep each night.

Under the leadership of Interior Designer, Emily Rea, our team collaborated to design and build a modernized end table. Each member, including our IT Manager, Chad Parrish, Office Manager, Alexis Pheanis, and Architectural Interns, Yaneth Garcia and Joaquin Montez, brought their unique skills and perspectives to the project to transform it into the final piece.

The Houston Furniture Bank opened its doors to each company team to purchase one piece of furniture to redesign and craft into a high-fashion item for auction at the reveal. The PhiloWilke team, with their innovative spirit, selected a wall cabinet, which they completely disassembled and redesigned into an end table. The design’s intention was to provide a highly functional item within any space whose intended purpose fit within any environment. Flexibility was a key consideration as they constructed the final piece, integrating technology, color, fabric, and convenience into the design.

The end table, a testament to our team’s creativity and functionality, was designed to help alleviate clutter by providing ample space for storage of books, board games, TV remotes, or tech devices. Instead of the drawer, a retractable cup holder offers additional space to alleviate unwanted junk accumulation and eliminate cup rings on the wooden tabletop or the potential for slips. This thoughtful design ensures a clean and organized living space.

In the age of technology, nothing is more important for an end table than providing access to electrical outlets and the proper device charging USB ports. The team visually concealed the outlet to maintain the sleekness of the piece, while keeping the outlet accessible for quick access.

The Furniture Label teaming partners were J. Tyler and Bently Mills. J. Tyler provided the outlet, cabinet pull, and Maharam Concord Stripe Upholstery. And Bently Mills supplied the Balustrade LVT.

Overall, the event was a testament to our team’s commitment to giving back to the community and positively impacting the lives of children in need. Help Houston Furniture Bank make our city one where no child sleeps on the floor, learn more HERE.
