The UTMB TDCJ Infirmary North project involves the renovation and expansion of a 17,500-square-foot abandoned operating room suite on the second floor of the John Sealy Annex Building in Galveston, Texas, to create a new medical/surgical inpatient unit serving the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) population. Designed by PhiloWilke in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of consultants, the project addresses the unique challenges of healthcare delivery within a secure correctional environment. It emphasizes efficient space planning, compliance with UTMB standards, and integration of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and security systems. The design team brings deep experience in healthcare renovations and occupied facility upgrades, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations while delivering a safe, functional, and patient-centered care environment.
