PhiloWilke Partnership is honored to serve as the design architect for three of WellSpan’s most recent community-based healthcare facilities, strengthening access to care and reinforcing the vital connection between health systems and the communities they serve. Our work with WellSpan reflects a shared commitment to community-centered healthcare design. These facilities are not only clinically capable, but welcoming, accessible, and deeply rooted in local needs. Each project is shaped through collaboration with caregivers, stakeholders, and community partners, ensuring the built environment supports care delivery while fostering trust, dignity, and long-term wellness.
One recent milestone includes the opening of WellSpan Health Newberry Community Hospital, a project that underscores the importance of bringing high quality care closer to home. Community hospitals like this play a critical role in expanding access, reducing barriers to care, and supporting healthier outcomes for families and neighborhoods, values that align squarely with our mission as health-focused architects.
Designing in Support of WellSpan’s Community Health Mission
WellSpan’s approach to improving health extends beyond the walls of its facilities. Through its Community Benefit and Community Health Improvement programs, WellSpan partners with local organizations and residents to address access to care, wellness, and the social determinants of health. This framework helps guide investments, planning, and outreach efforts across the communities WellSpan serves.
As the design architect, we view our role as an extension of that mission. Thoughtful planning, efficient workflows, and human-centered design contribute directly to environments that support caregivers and patients alike while advancing WellSpan’s broader goal of building healthier, more resilient communities.
