Homeschooling? It is never to early to teach your child about architecture and design! Our mentor tribes often create unique activities out of everyday items to get their teams to think outside the box. This is a great activity that can be done in your own home with minimal supplies to encourage creativity while introducing shapes, design, and architecture.
What you will need:
- Straws or toothpicks
- Marshmallows, gumdrops, tape or glue
- Inspiration: pick a building or object to try to recreate with these unusual building materials
- Patience!
How it works:
The idea is to create a structure out of these few items and compare and contrast how they can differ from one person’s design to another. Showing that there are many ways to interpret the design.
If you want to make it a competition set a time limit and use the criteria below to judge:
- Tallest Structure
- Most Structurally Sound
- Most Creative Use of Supplies
This may get a little messy depending on what medium you choose to hold your straws/toothpicks together. Nevertheless, this is about making the most of our time with one another, learning and having fun! So enjoy the process!
Be sure to share your designs with us – we look forward to seeing many wonderful creations!
