January 11, 2021 – Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital had its formal socially distanced groundbreaking for its new South Tower expansion. While most groundbreakings occur before construction, this one was postponed due to the recent pandemic and health and safety concerns. The actual groundbreaking of the new 332,000 SF 8-story tower and parking garage expansion was on April 20, 2020, and was celebrated as a virtual meeting with a symbolic ribbon cutting.

Memorial Hermann Health System and The Woodlands Medical Center leadership teams were present along with the architect (PhiloWilke Partnership), program manager (JLL), and the contractor (Austin Commercial). Each group gave a short speech, multiple photos were taken, but all parties practiced the three “W’s”: wearing a mask, watching social distance, and washing hands frequently. Personal health safety is just as important as site safety.
