Texas Children’s Pediatric Associates – Baytown is a 4,000 SF practice in a community retail center. Our design incorporates child-oriented visual cues that guide patients to three separate “pods” each identified by a unique color and mural theme. One physician or nurse practitioner is responsible for each of the pods, comprised of four exam rooms and one personalized alcove dictation space. The twelve exam rooms include custom millwork exam tables with built-in stairs that allow young patients to climb onto the tables themselves, providing a fun distraction and a sense of independence. While the project is larger than the previous TCPA-Baytown location, we were challenged to fit the required equipment into the compact clinical space. The design concept integrates bright colors and abundant natural daylight along with a freshwater aquarium and art installations by local children, thus providing an open, welcoming feel for staff, patients and families alike.
