The addition of a Linear Accelerator at the UT MD Anderson Proton Therapy Center allows for increased patient volume and continued excellent care to the area. This vault included a 2,890 square foot exterior expansion adjacent to the facility’s main entrance. The design was developed to blend with the existing structure and enhance the building’s overall curb appeal. Metal paneling, curtain wall glazing, and accent lighting were incorporated to complement the rotunda. The vault has eight-foot thick concrete walls and a large shielding door in place to protect those in surrounding spaces from radiation exposure.
